Class will meet during the final exam period.  You will complete an in-class reflection exercise and turn in your final portfolio. The final exam schedule is available here.

MWF 10:00 am meets on Friday Dec. 16 at 10:30 am in TYSON 120A.
MWF 1:00pm meets on Friday Dec. 16 at 1:00 pm in MAIN 316.



11/28 -12/2
Monday, 11/28: We'll review our understanding of the "rhetorical situation" and discuss you choices for Paper #4.  Individual conferences are scheduled in lieu of the next three class periods.  If you've forgotten the time, you can look it up here.  Have a draft of your paper in class on Wed. 12/7.
11/21 - 11/25
Monday 11/21: Casebooks are due.  NO class Wed. and Fri.  Happy Thanksgiving!! The assignment sheet for Paper #4 will be distibuted in class and is available for download here.
11/14 - 11/18
Monday 11/14: Edit Introduction, Headnotes, Endnotes; compose argumentative conclusion outline. Wednesday, 11/16: Review/edit argumentative conclusion. Friday, 11/18: Assemble Casebook; finishing touches.  See Casebook Assignment Schedule.
11/7 - 11/11
Monday 11/7: Class time will be spent in the library gathering sources and completing source evaluation worksheets.  Wednesday, 11/9: Bring all sources to class to finish filling out "Evaluation of Sources" worksheets. Friday, 11/11: Complete evaluation worksheets; compose or review headnotes and endnotes for each of your four featured articles; draft your casebook "Introduction."  See Casebook Assignment Schedule.
10/31 - 11/4
Class is meeting in the library on Wed. 11/2 and Fri. 11/4.  Wednesday's canceled orientation is rescheduled for Friday.  Meet in FHG LIBRARY's computer classroom--3rd floor (309).
10/24 - 10/28
For Monday, 10/24: Bring an editorial from a major newspaper to to class.  For Wednesday, 10/26: Brainstorm topic ideas--debatable, arguable issues; 10am section--bring your editorial from a major newspaper to class. 
10/17 - 10/21
For Monday, 10/17: Writing Workshop (revision and editing). Bring three copies of your draft to class to work with in small groups. For Wed. 10/19:  Final draft of Paper #2 is due.  For Friday 10/21: Read chapter 3 in The Call to Write.  Bring your textbook to class.
10/10 - 10/14
No class Monday 10/10 (Fall Break).  For Wed. 10/12: Settle  on your topic for Paper #2 (see the assignment sheet); we'll work on generating and organizing ideas for your rough draft.
10/3 - 10/7
For Monday 10/3: Repeat the exercise you worked on in class today with the essay from Harpers, "Soldiers of Christ I."  If you need to print the article, you can do that from here.  If you need to look at the exercise again, here's an assignment sheet for Monday.  Remember to bring in at least one picture of a person, group of people, or place.  The picture can be from your personal collection, a magazine, or the Internet. 
9/26 - 9/30
The final draft of Paper #1 is due on Monday, 9/26.  Read Chapters 7 and 8 for Wednesday, 9/28.  Read the articles in the handouts for Friday, 9/30 ("The Soldiers of Christ I" and "The Five Bedroom, Six Figure Rootless Life").  Online versions of these readings are in the WRT 120 Notebook section of this site.

9/19 - 9/23
Conferences continue on 9/19; writing workshop on 9/21--bring 3 copies of your draft to class; editing workshop on 9/23--bring your draft to class in "isolated sentences" format.
9/12 - 9/16
Read chapters 1,2,4,5 in The Call to Write for Monday.  There will be a brief  quiz this week on that material.  For Wed. 9/14, bring brainstorm three or four topic ideas for each genre we've discussed (letter, memoir, response to literature).  Bring your list to class.  We'll discuss them as we go over the formal assignment sheet for the first formal paper.
9/7 - 9/9

Read all the poems and stories in the handout distributed in class last week.  We'll continue to explore materials that help us think about the topic of "identity."  Read "You Are Exhausted By Risk" for Friday (10:00 am Tyson Hall class--I'm aware of the missing back page on your handout!  One of these days, your copies will come out right...)

8/29 - 9/2 Read the syllabus carefully, as well as the assigned readings from the handout "Poems and Stories about Identity."  This week you'll  need to write a brief paper in class (about your thoughts on writing) and a brief "mini-paper" for homework on the topic of "identity." The writing homework is due in class on Friday, Sept. 2.  Specific directions for this assignment will be announced in class and then posted here.
