LESSONS DELIVERED STRAIGHT TO YOUR MAILBOX
I'm available for tutoring in writing and reading. If we do business, we'll conduct it using email.
My qualifications as a writing tutor include a master's degree in English and 15+ years teaching experience in college classrooms. I'm sure I can help you develop your writing skills, whatever your needs. I'll even give you one free mini-session so you can sample my services. Rates for tutoring vary depending on the scope of your request, but they'd rarely exceed $20/hour. I ask that clients use PAYPAL to pay for services once we've negotiated our terms.
Proofs will be checked either alone or against earlier versions; errors will be rooted out wherever they may try to hide, and you know there'll be more than one--in your grammar, in your punctuation, in your spelling, in your typography, in your layout, in your graphics, in your formatting, in your fatally mixed concoction of weird metaphors, in your stubborn, lazy, oblivious refusal to maintain consistency, in your restless, queasy unsuccessful search for interesting ways of saying boring things.
This is serious, serious error patrol.
What writer doesn't need an editor? What writer wouldn't value that extra pair of knowing eyes, that extra bit of emotionally detached discretion, that person with an encyclopedic but also practical understanding of grammar and syntax? Who wouldn't want to hire their very own linguistic illusionist, someone to magically transform ordinary copy into something special?
A good editor promises more than fixed errors. A good editor helps you see your work in a new light, a brighter light, a fertile light. Good editing is like photosynthesis...it's an essential element that helps ideas grow. In some gardens, the weeds obscure the flowers. But an effective editor, like a good gardener, will root out those choking growths, eliminate dead matter.
I like problems because I like when I can solve them. Writing can be like solving a problem. Certain questions are always there--what should I say, how should I say it, how do I want my audience to receive it? I actually like to do this. I actually think it can be fun as well as challenging.
Whatever your writing needs, I'd like to try to assist you in reaching your goals.
